(ooc: Wow! Seriously, I didn't expect SO many of you guys to offer a place to crash for Shawn. It warms his spirit! Since he's quite serious about the road trip but, should you all really go along with it, I am really not capable of putting up SO MANY threads - this is his one big road-trip post. If your muse still has a warm place on the couch for him and of course only if you are interested in playing something out you can just reply here with whatever you want - your muse doing daily stuff before Shawn decides to show up, song lyrics, a nice picture of a pineapple might pull him in as well... whatever you feel like. :D)
---
As soon as he left Santa Barbara behind he already knew this had been the right decision.
Hell, his father could accuse him of running away ten times a day for all he cared. Henry wouldn't understand that facing things wasn't going to help right now - when you were ill you at least let the chicken soup cool down a little before you forced it down your throat, right? And this chicken soup was way too hot right now. Also, he doubted that it would benefit his health but that was a completely different matter altogether.
But this, hitting the road on his Norton, this was what he needed right now, the freedom of just getting out of it for now, of feeling the wind on his face.
Not that he did feel the wind because he wasn't stupid enough to drive without a helmet, but still. The metaphorical wind indirectly on his face as he contemplated his first stop. Yeah, he just had to clear his head, cool down and - most important - have a good time. When Santa Barbara got him back he and everything else would be back to normal again.
At least that's what he hoped. He wouldn't have it any other way.

Date: 2008-02-15 02:40 pm (UTC)Anna was coming down the living room when she spotted the twins sitting on the couch, heads tilted far to the side. She headed over to them, confused, and leaned over their shoulders to see what they were watching. "Whatcha doin'?"
"YouTube," Nate replied casually. YouTube was the twins' newest fascination, and they had taken to performing their own stunts, and then posting their own videos.
"Do you think we could pull off the exploding watermelon one?" Luke asked, more to his brother than Anna, but Anna could hear it nonetheless.
"Uh, guys -- that one's kinda dangerous."
"Anna -- it's us," Luke replied, giving her a look over his shoulder.
"Right," Anna sighed, rolling her eyes, before Nate handed his brother a laptop, and got up, heading towards the kitchen.
"Hey, Mama? We got any watermelons lying around?"
Anna shook her head before plopping down on the couch next to Luke, and ruffled his hair slightly. "Don't set the house on fire, alright?"
"Oh, Anna don't worry. We will be doing this far, far away from the house."
"Because you know Mama will kill you."
"It is for exactly that reason."
"Good."

Date: 2008-02-15 10:36 pm (UTC)Shuddering, he walked back to his Norton when his eyes spotted the old, rusty payphone. For a moment he hesitated but then again this thing knew what fresh air was, whatever was going on in that shop where he so didn't buy a snack for lunch didn't. He shuffled his feet, disgusted and checked his cell phone.
Nope, still no signal. Just where the hell was he anyway, Twin Peaks?
He peeked at his watch, frowning, deciding it was time to make a plan how the day should end. From what he knew Anna's place was in some realistic distance if he got out of here right away - and that was his full intention.
Shawn rummaged in his pockets, providing himself with a couple of quarters and hoped this thing was still working when he pinched in the number.

Date: 2008-02-15 11:23 pm (UTC)"It's Shawn. I hope you can hear my voice because I am holding something very weird and worrying. If you hear me screaming in the next ten seconds I probably figured out I spoke into a rattlesnake that honed the fine skill of camouflage attack. Also, probably swallowed the receiver. But that is entirely unrelated."

Date: 2008-02-15 11:27 pm (UTC)"Shawn?" Luke frowned, looking up from the laptop, and the twins were sitting close enough to her that he could probably be heard through the phone. "Who's Shawn?"
Anna waved her hand to get Luke to be quiet, before leaning forward so that she could hear better. "If I hear you scream, I'll make sure to call the proper authorities."

Date: 2008-02-15 03:23 pm (UTC)"I don't get it," She said to Kirmani as he handed her the last of the paperwork on their latest cases, "How can anyone go out and kill someone in 5 degree weather with a negative wind chill?"
"Oh, come on, Boss, nothing gets the blood moving like a good murder." Kirmani remarked dryly. Murphy just shot him a droll look, smiling only a little. Kirmani didn't miss a beat, "You want to check out those numbers we got from the phone company tomorrow or check the lead near Wrigley?"
"Wrigley first, we'll save the sitting and highlighting for after we've frozen."
"Gotcha boss." Kirmani tapped the top of her cubical, "See you tomorrow."
"See you." Murphy muttered. She had at least another hour's worth of paperwork to do. A Lieutenant's job was never done. She got it done in a half an hour and thought about staying late, but there wasn't anything really pressing for her to do. It felt slightly weird for her to be home before midnight.
Despite that, Murphy made the best of it. She turned on her gas fireplace and made herself some hot chocolate only slightly spiked with Bailey's. Of course, she brought a few files home with her and spread them out on her coffee table, studying various gruesome photos while she sipped her drink.

Date: 2008-02-15 10:50 pm (UTC)Sometimes just a small nothingness, like, an address for the postcard you want to send. Sometimes something vital, like your passport. Sometimes to turn off the coffee machine, or at least that's what you think and it throws you into desperate, itchy fits.
In Shawn's case it was warm clothes.
And he was going to die. He knew it.
Cursing and yelping it seemed to take forever to find a good spot to park his Norton and he learned that not even the coolest motorcycle made you look cool when your teeth chattered.
His survival instinct on a streak it didn't take him too long to get to Murphy's place, hoping that she was home. Of course he could have called her but if he called her first she might say no. For whatever reasons. No, no, no, that wasn't a good plan, besides, Shawn's fingers were frozen, he would never make it so far as to dial a whole number!
When he finally banged his fist against her door - anxious if it might break into little ice cubes - he felt like an abominable snowman.
Only without the fur.
Which would have been nice.

Date: 2008-02-15 11:30 pm (UTC)With a threatrical sigh he turned back to look at Murphy. "You are my saviour. I wasn't expecting Ice Age out there."

Date: 2008-02-15 03:44 pm (UTC)She wasn't sure if she should be surprised that Shawn accepted her offer to stay at her place, but he did. Lorraine wasn't entirely upset either, some company would be appreciated. She asked him to meet her at the office, it would give her an excuse to get out of the library for a while.
no subject
Date: 2008-02-15 10:55 pm (UTC)He hadn't talked that much to Lorraine but hey, whatever. Meeting new interesting people was one of the main points of travelling!
With his keen vision it didn't take him too long to find his way to her office. Nice. Crane, Poole and Schmidt was quite the place. Maybe he should try to get a foot in, some freelance cases for the near future wouldn't hurt.

Date: 2008-02-16 05:20 pm (UTC)Lorraine walked over and offered him her hand to shake, "You must be Shawn." She said, electing not to even attempt an American accent, since she hated using it anyway.

Date: 2008-02-17 12:21 am (UTC)He waved his free hand around. "This is quite the place. The Santa Barbara offices are smaller than that. Not that I haven't been to big cities before but still... nice. I say nice a lot today, don't I." He grinned. "Of course you're nicer than the place."

Date: 2008-02-15 05:52 pm (UTC)Rian glanced up from the mattress she was trying to re-cover, grinning as AJ trotted up with a piece of construction paper in his hand. Reaching out, she took it and admired the black baby scrawls on the sheet. AJ wasn't much of a drawer, but he loved to use black crayons to "write" like his mother did.
"Wow...that's a really great story, baby!" she beamed, reaching out to pull him against her side as she knelt on the floor, pretending to read. "Did you write about Grampy again?"
"No...dat 'Nake. See? I wite him!"
Grinning, she handed the paper back to him and wrapped him in a hug as she kissed his neck ticklishly. "You did, huh? He's gonna be so honored!! Read it to me? Mommy's got to finish making the bed for our visitor."
"Who bizit, Momma?"
"His name's Shawn...he's a nice man, like Snake." she reassured him with a smile as she released her son to go back to the mattress currently spread out on the floor. Her apartment, while a two bedroom, was nice and airy, so with the addition of a futon couch, she had an automatic and tasteful looking "guest room" in her living room. The massive sofa cushion doubled as the mattress when the bed folded out flat, but AJ's latest grape juice spill incident had stained her lovely blue floral cover, forcing her to break out the green velvet one instead.
As AJ set to work babbling out a disjointed story about Snake finding a toy, Rian managed to get the mattress recovered without killing herself...she'd been back home for nearly a week now, and still building her stamina back up. Although her heart trouble was a distant memory, being laid up for nearly two weeks in the hospital had ruined her usual semi-steady workout regiment and made mince meat of her endurance.
Still...being home made *everything* better.
"Momma! Toys! Toys for Shaw?"
Grinning, Rian stood and bent down to hoist up the mattress into her arms and start dragging it back over to the futon. "Sure, baby...get some toys for Shawn! Just don't make a mess, okay?"
As AJ toddled off to his room, Rian finished her housework without much trouble. With the futon mattress recovered and the couch reset, blankets and pillows folded and ready at one end, the rest of the apartment vacuumed and swept as needed, AJ's toys (almost) all put away, and the fridge fully stocked with a couple of pineapples and stuff for baking (she was *so* making her grandmother's pineapple upside down cake with Shawn), she wasn't just ready for a visit...she was looking forward to it.
Unsure of what time he'd roll into town, Rian finally got herself settled at the desk in the corner of her living room...her 'home office,' with AJ building a castle in anticipation of Shawn's arrival while she finished setting up her schedule for the week. She still had to call Snake again to finish her interview for the Lycan Awareness article, and con Michael into giving her a quote or two for the piece...

Date: 2008-02-15 11:02 pm (UTC)At least that was one possibility how this might go and he liked the sound of it.The engine of his Norton hadn't completely shut up yet when Shawn was already off his bike, grinning like an idiot. Oh, this was gonna be great! He was looking forward to noise and chatter and fun, because despite the awesome adventure of a road trip it sometimes lacked... well, company.
Also, he wanted to see how she was doing. His last visit to the hospital was still very vivid in front of his eyes and he fully expected her to be back in shape, seriously, she had to. Where else could the universe bundle their energies? They were the pillars and he couldn't be a pillar on his own. So. She had to bounce, period.
Still grinning he knocked at the door, a certain rhyhtm pattern he made up.

Date: 2008-02-15 07:03 pm (UTC)The apartment was huge anyway, with its high ceilings and the wood floor that Equalizer (her giant golden retriever) seemed very attached to. She would have plenty of space for Shawn, which was why she had volunteered instead of letting Randy do it. Randy was always the first one to volunteer for everything and he had an apartment currently in the process of fitting in a whole lot of recording equipment. She had no such stuff. Just a very large dog and a tank of tropical fish.
Checking to make sure the fridge was stocked, she made sure to hide the issues of Cosmo before he got there.

Date: 2008-02-15 11:07 pm (UTC)He arrived a little later than expected, due to traffic and the fact that he wasn't the most punctual person. Still, he arrived good-humoredly and with a big smile on his face when he knocked at her door.

Date: 2008-02-15 10:05 pm (UTC)Her apartment was a modest size considering it was in Greenwich Village, with a kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom. There wasn't much to look at - the basic amenities, some paintings and photographs on the living room walls and a pair of silver sais mounted on her bedroom wall.
There were two cat beds in one corner of the living room, which Anna nearly tripped over as she made her way to her bedroom to unload and store her gun before changing into her green pajama pants and a black tank top, ready to settle in and relax.

Date: 2008-02-15 11:20 pm (UTC)He spent the day loitering, just looking, taking in new images, refreshing old ones, glad to finally be here.
It wasn't until much later that he remembered he still needed a place for the night. Whoops. He had meant to call Anna much earlier... oh well, he could still try. If she was busy or out of town he would just call up Gus' uncle. They always had a couch to spare.

Also, Chuck! And probably video games. Win-win!
Grinning, Shawn walked up to the door and rang the bell.
