Shawn has taken care of absolutely everything. There are flowers and drinks and different types of music. There is food and loads of pineapples. All that stuff that either shouldn't break or demands too much space is simply out of the way and it actually looks very different if you know what it looks like originally.

Still, the pin-ball machine is at the same spot and with all the furniture out of the way or rearranged it's a really comfy place. He has borrowed a couch from a neighbour, who, in return, is of course invited and built some kind of lounge.

Additionally, it is a nice day, which is why the place in front of the psych office is open to hang out as well, with some self service BBQ ("Dad, it's really nice you let me borrow the grill. Hey, why... don't you just stay here and make sure nothing burns down? And be nice to the guests!" - "Shawn! I won't... Shawn!!"), more drinks and the easy Californian warmth cheering up mournful spirits. That and the beach directly in front of you.

Playing idly with the ring on his finger Shawn takes one last look around, a satisfied grin on his face. His prior job as an event planner came in quite handy while setting all of this up. Not only has he still got all the contacts, it also made organizing a pretty easy job. It's all about knowing what you have to do. Then it's actually not work anymore.

(ooc: Open for as long people want to play. Bendy time is love!)

Ray exhales sharply through his nose and rolls his eyes round to Gus.

Honestly.

He has the sudden urge to cuff Burton up the side of his head but manages to surpress it in time. "I was talkin' about you, you div."

"Are you saying I surprise you?" Gus shakes his head. "It's not like I hide it or anything."

Of course, up until a little while ago, there wasn't anything to hide. But that's besides the point.

"Oh, yeah," Ray scoffs, his voice drowning in sarcasm. "Because you totally told me you were married to the guy when I mentioned him. How could I forget a thing like that? Shame on me."

"Right, because I wanted to start talking about my husband to the man who'd just assulted him." Gus snarks right back. "Sorry, of course full discloser to a person who, frankly, scares the hell out of you, is standard now? Must've missed that memo."

Ray doesn't need much more than that to shut up. He grinds his teeth against the truth and salutes Gus with his drink, meeting his eyes for all of a second. At that, he walks away and slips into the crowd.

Gus swears.

Just fucking great, like he needs to deal with this right now. He sets off after Vecchio, trailing him until he gets a chance to talk again. "Wait, hey, Vecchio. Stop a second."

Gus nods to outside. "Can we talk? I mean, without all the sarcasm and backbiting and defensiveness? Just plainly. I swear I'll hear you out or whatever too."

Ray stops walking, right in the middle of the room and drops his head back to groan silently up at the heavens. A lecture is the last thing he needs. But then Gus is talking civilised and Ray turns round real slow, and squints his eyes at him. He sounds like he's being reasonable...

It's the best offer Ray's had all night anyway, and he shrugs a little self-consciously. "Sure," he answers, toned clipped but willing, as he leads the way in the direction Gus had nodded.

Gus leads Vecchio out to the beach, since it's way too crowded even outside the office to have a real talk. When they get to a decent spot, Gus paces. "Okay... okay, here is the thing. Jack never lies to me, my Uncle's really cool that way. So after everything that happened, I asked him about you. Just for an opinion, I didn't really tell him why."

He rubs a hand behind his neck. "He said, you were a decent guy, and you always had his back when it really counted. Basically, he says you're a good cop." Gus exhales.

He doesn't know if any of this even matters to Vecchio, but it's been eating the hell out of him, and this is probably the only change he'll ever have to say anything. "I wanna believe him. No, I do believe him. But I want to know, why?"

Gus sighs and looks out at the ocean. Because he doesn't want to risk seeing Vecchio laugh at him, mock him, or whatever. "Why did you come down here and do that to Shawn?"

Huh. So Jack really does talk about Ray behind his back. Not that he can really complain; from what Gus has said, Huey's been pretty positive in his feedback. Still, Ray doesn't like the feeling he's left with - like he's been checked out to see if he measures up. He doesn't like it at all.

"I lost it," he confesses simply, running a palm over his jaw and watching Gus watch the sea. He isn't going to deny that; he lost his temper good and proper and for a long, long time, there's no hiding it. He exhales a little sharply through his nose. "You and I both know he's a fake, Gus. He solves cases, sure, even I've read about that. He sounds like a damn good investigator."

Ray takes a step towards Gus, coming up to stand beside him, turned in towards him. "Now, I don't know how he does it and frankly, I don't think I wanna know how but when he starts all his mumbo-jumbo chanting crap and conning my-" The stumble in his voice is barely noticeable. "- friend outta money that Ren can't afford to waste, then I have a problem with him. A big one." Ray lowers his voice and drops his hands. "I lost it, yes, I got," like Langoustini, "my head screwed on backwards that day. But damn good investigator or not, that does not give him the right trick someone who's supposed to be his friend too. It's wrong."

Gus keeps staring impassivly outward. "Well then, I guess you got the wrong guy."

It's enough for him to hear that Vecchio was doing this for Ren, he did already think that, but he just needed to hear it from Vecchio himself. "Shawn doesn't take any of the money, he could care less about that, you may not believe he has gifts or anything, but Ren does."

Although Gus agrees with Ray about tricking friends into believing things, Ren has become a point of contention in the past. But Shawn wouldn't do something he really thought was wrong, and Gus trusts that too.

"It's Ren's choice on how he spends that money. It's my choice whether or not we take it." and how it gets invested.

Ray scoffs and fixes his eye on the ocean too. Who do they think they're kidding with all this psychic hocus-pocus?

"Turnbull believes him because he trusts too easily. And if you're taking his money off him, you're no better than Shawn." Or me, he adds silently. What he did was basic bully tactics, he's not proud of the fact. But taking money off an innocent guy? It's like an adult version of stealing his lunch money. Trickery, conning his friends, gaining their trust and faith and then ripping them off...it makes Ray's stomach clench and fists ball.

He continues staring though, hands stuffed deep in his pockets. "I mean, his mother! His dead mother. Do you know what that can do to a guy, thinking they're connected to, talking to a dead parent?" Ray hisses, face contorted in disgust. He doesn't know how people could live with themselves. Hearing nothing is much better than hearing lies, in Ray's opinion.

"No, I never have been." Better than Shawn, Gus means. But more importantly is the fact that he can't argue with Vecchio about Ren's mother either. It still sits so wrong with him, and yet... he makes no effort to stop Shawn. So again he's just as guilty, if not more.

"Yes! I know what it's been doing to Ren!" Gus clentches a fist. "He's really happy when he leaves here. But... he keeps coming back. Look, detective. I can't just turn him away when it's plain that this is what he wants." Gus sighs.

Ray shakes his head minutely at Gus's words, refusing to listen. "Ignorance isn't bliss, Burt." No matter if Ren is happy or not when he leaves.

Ray can't bear the thought of someone tricking Turnbull, lying to him. That might make him the biggest hypocrite in the world right now and he's not proud of that fact, but Ray cares about Ren and he'd be damned if he was just going to let another friend take it whilst he sits back too dumb to do anything.

"He's had too many people lying to him in the past," Ray continues, a touch of desperation in his voice. "When he realises Shawn's a fake," he leaves no room for Gus to interrupt, to contradict him, "I can't even imagine what that'd do to him. And since you're so good at telling the lies, Gus, you tell him something. Tell him Spencer's spirit channels are all blocked up, tell him his powers have packed up and left, tell him any damn thing you want, just stop him before he gets too deep!"

"So you want me to lie to him to help him?" Gus sighs. He would do it, if he thought he could convince Shawn to agree. But the chance of that happening was... Shawn thinks he's helping Turnbull, and maybe he actually is.

"Look, I'm not going to stop him from coming down here." Gus holds up a hand to say he isn't done. "I'll try to figure out something that'll put an end to this... but the issues isn't Shawn whatever you may believe about his gift. What's to stop Turnbull from finding another psychic? He's looking for something here, I don't know what it is, college psychology makes me want to hazard a few guesses. But.." Gus shrugs.

"Maybe it'd help him more if you figured out why he seems to need this."
