"I was in the area." Murphy couldn't help but smile back at Shawn, the guy's energy was infectious. "Unless the spirits are a rental Honda, I'm going to stick with that bringing me here."

She raised an eyebrow, "You're married?" She really hoped her distaste for marriage didn't show up in her tone. Ever since her divorce marriage had become tainted and pretty evil from her view point.

"One can never know. I should definitely take a look at that Honda later," Shawn replied earnestly.

"Yeah, I am," he then grinned, ignoring the sceptical? wary? way she expressed this. "Ten years, actually. Hence the party. You wanna meet my lucky love?"

Murphy chuckled, "Please don't tell me my car is possessed, I've already had a case with a possessed scooter."

"Ten years?" Murphy tried really hard not to stand there with her mouth hangin open. Shawn had been married ten years? He was like twenty something, what the heck was he doing married? And for ten years? "Oh yeah, let's meet the lucky lady." Murphy really wanted to meet the woman who had managed to last ten years married.

Shawn's grin broadened at the words and there was no way stopping him from playing this out as long as possible. "Alright then!"

He scanned the room until he spotted his best friend close to the stereo. Perfect! Not only could he present him to Murphy, he could also keep him from changing the CD. Because no matter how sneakily Gus tried to move Shawn knew what he was up to in a heartbeat.

"Honey!" he yelled, hurrying over and without waiting for any reply he put an arm around him and dragged him back to Murphy. "Gus, this is Lieutenant Murphy from the Chicago PD. Murphy, this is my husband Gus."

Murphy raised an eyebrow, a little surprised. She was certainly not expecting Shawn to bring over another man. She quickly looked Gus over, noting the nice clothes, tie and all together neat appearance. Definitely not the kind of person she'd put Shawn with.

Murphy offered a hand, surprised but not bothered by the twist, "Just call me Murphy. Nice to meet you, Gus."

Gus winces initially at the 'honey' and the fact that Shawn prevents him from getting to the stereo. This is a party about them, right? Shouldn't Gus have been allowed to pick some music other than Shawn's pre-approved list of Eighties Pop, not that he disliked those songs, but he does have other musical tastes as well...

When Gus is introduced to Murphy he takes in the confidence, and professional attitude. This girl, he likes. Gus shakes her hand. "A Lieutenant, I'm impressed."

Murphy grinned, pretty proud of the title herself, "Ten years of marriage, I'm impressed with you."

She sipped her juice, ignoring the pineapple taste, "So, what's it like being married to a psychic? Does he know fights are going to happen before you do?"

"Oh I imagine it's pretty much the same as being married to anyone who wasn't a psychic." Gus grins. "He thinks he knows everything, I doubt that ever has anything to do with his gifts."

Gus bumps Shawn's shoulder to say that, while he's not exactly joking about that, he doesn't mean anything bad by it either.

Shawn grinned, putting his arm around him. "Because I still want to surprise you. Wouldn't it be boring when you knew you'd always get what you were thinking of? Where's the fun in that?"

He beamed at Murphy. "See the sacrifices I make?"

Murphy watched them together, assessing them. They were comfortable together, not bothered by physical contact and were close. A little cute as a couple, but she was still surprised they were together. And married.

"I've been married to a non-psychic, you seem to be having the easier time." She said to Gus, smiling a little.

"Oh, horrible sacrifices," Murphy said dryly, "You should contact the Arch diocese for that martyr status. I hear the application process is a killer."

Gus smiles back. "Oh, I'm not so sure about easy. Because of him, I seem to have a perminant spot in the emergancy waiting room, and my health insurance company has threatened to drop me more than once." Gus shifts a little with Shawn's arm around him. Not because it's uncomfortable really, he's just settling into a stance.

"But all that goes way back before we were even... married. I think we've been on a first name basis with every nurse in the area since we were eleven or twelve."

"Weren't you the one who didn't want to go down the sappy road?" Shawn commented, rolling his eyes but still grinning. "But yes. Childhood sweethearts. Can you believe it."

Gus rolls his eyes. "Don't listen to him, Murphy. He's exaggerating in extremes."

Gus would like for people to remember something other than the ten years of marriage, especially when more of the truth comes to light. They've been friends all their life, pretty much, if someone's going to be impressed with anything of their relationship, it should be that part.

"I have the same problem with my friend," Murphy said, thinking off all the nights she had to sit in the waiting room with a beaten and banged up Harry. The pause before the word married made Murphy cant her head. That was an odd place to pause.

"I didn't know California was allowing same sex marriages or did you have to go out of state?" She asked, curious and digging just a little. Sometimes she just couldn't stop being a cop.

"Technically the state doesn't recognise gay marriage. So legally speaking, this isn't an actual arrangement." Which, come to think of it, kind of makes Gus indignant. He makes a note to look into the politics a little bit more, when he's got the time.

"We did have the cerimony out of state though, and with one thing and another have created quite a legal tangle with all of our paperwork." Gus mentally glosses over his possible bigamy charges as well as Shawn's tax fraud investigation. "I hesitate to say, especially with you being law enforcement and everything, but Shawn and I have had many discussions when it comes to 'law' and basically, we decided to do our own thing with this."

Gus wonders if he'll go straight to hell for all the half lies and substitutions he just put into that speech.

"Ah, okay." Murphy nodded, "Sounds just about as messy as my divorce. Where'd you go for it?" She didn't mean to slide into an interrogation, but she couldn't seem to shake the nagging feeling Gus is lying to her about something. He has Harry's poker face and she's good at reading people.

"Where does everyone go when they're young, and impulsive?" Gus smiles. It's weird but, even though they know what happened, to some extent, it still doesn't seem very real. Maybe because the memories are still jumbled up, and the only thing he can even vaguely recall is a fountain, where they threw their rings.

Gus looks at Shawn, more for permission to say anything, even though the story can't not be told. "We were in Vegas." I guess, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
