I think that somehow, we learn who we really are and then live with that decision.

The soft, warm breeze of a Thai night ruffled his hair as Shawn lay on the roof of a small building and lazily watched the stars over Ko Samui sparkle down on him.
This was easy and relaxed and being an English teacher was even more fun than he had imagined. The whole Hip Hop project he had started? Sweet! Those guys were getting really good, in touch with their inner mo to the jo, y’know what I’m sayin’, fo shiz! No, Shawn really didn’t understand why Snoop and Biggie weren’t included in the ‘English as a Foreign Language’ curriculum but he was glad he had lost those weird papers somewhere during his first visit to the island’s centre.
His observational skills provided him a lot of impressions, sounds, smells, colours. People were hurrying by somewhere below and it really was just like being on holiday. Only the scraps of foreign conversations made him feel a little uneasy and excluded.
He wondered what Gus was doing right now. Probably something boring. That was the problem with Gus, he often ended up doing something boring instead of something fun when Shawn wasn’t around to remind him what the difference was. Maybe his friend mixed the two words up or he was being tortured by aliens until they found him brainwashed enough to believe in boring stuff and then it was all up to Shawn again to safe him from this inner struggle.
"This here for example!" he said, sitting up. "This is adventurous and fun and awesome! This is the life!" And if it stops being fun I can always pack up my things and go.
The people on the street stared at him funny and then just continued on their way because they didn’t understand what he was saying.
It wasn’t a new feeling.
