"When a friend is in trouble, don't annoy him by asking if there is any thing you can do. Think up something appropriate and do it."

It wasn't a big secret that he liked Amanda. Amanda wasn't only pretty, she was also smart. She was the total winner. And Amanda had asked him. Had walked over to him in front of all the others. Smiling. Wanting to drink a coffee with him. Wanting to hear about his prior spelling bee experiences. And all the guys staring at him, jealous, envious, irritated.
It had been heaven.
And then the devil himself, in form of Shawn Spencer, disguised as something that was supposed to be his best friend had popped up and refused to be banished back into the flames of... something very hot and punishable. Because he was being a total jerk.
They couldn't go anywhere. They couldn't talk, they couldn't hold hands, they couldn't escape him. He would follow, pop up, tell embarassing stuff about Gus, slip into the space between them and throw his arm around her, tell jokes that were so totally inappropriate they gave Gus phsyical pains and simply wouldn't stop until Amanda stood, her beautiful face twisted in girly rage. "I'm leaving! You two are so totally insane! I don't believe this!"
---
"I'm not talking to you!"
"Oh, come on, Gus." He grinned, waiting for Gus to enter the Guster's house.
But Gus didn't keep walking. He paused in the door, blocking the entrance for Shawn until he frowned in irritation. "Gus."
Silence.
"What, you're serious?"
"Yes! I am serious! I am not talking to you. EVER. Again!"
The door slammed shut, the noise slapping Shawn square in the face.
---
"Hi Amanda."
She shot him a hostile look. "Go to hell, Spencer."
"I know about the bet."
She froze. Shawn, however, didn't. Shawn kept walking, hands folded behind his head until he turned on his heels. "Got more than one running at the moment? Let me clear it up for you. I know about the 'lure geek boy into the school cafeteria and make him look like an idiot because he thinks you like him'." He still grinned but there was something in his eyes that scared her, something that reminded her of Shawn's dad and Shawn's dad was probably the scariest person she knew. "If you ever try something like this again I will personally make your life hell. You know that's the one thing we class clowns are incredibly good at."
She made a high-pitched, valkyre-like sound at him, turned on her heels and walked away.
"Hey, but if you're still free, I'm available on Friday... ... not? Well! You can still call me! Think about it!"
