SIX DEGREES KARAOKE (Tammy Award Party for [livejournal.com profile] wolfwithaguitar)

Taking a quick look around Shawn nods in approval. Yeah, this is definitely it. The place where Randy's gonna get his well-deserved celebration big time. Renting the karaoke bar had proved even easier than he had imagined: Just some observations about certain employees and dirty deals, neatly packed into a breathtaking vision and the owner was even more than willing to make the place available. Acknowledgment of gratitude, which, of course, Shawn couldn't decline. That would have been totally rude.

The SIX DEGREES karaoke bar is a big place that somehow managed to stay comfy nevertheless. There are round tables near the bar as well as lounges in the corners. The bar itself is more of the modern kind but without looking too freaky to keep looking at it after five beers. The stage is actually perfect. Shawn checked it out, everybody should be able to see it.

It's all there, everything is ready so he hums a happy little tune as he waits for Randy and the guys to show up for the soundcheck. Not that he particularly cares if someone else decides to drop by early. If nobody shows up at all it doesn't really matter as well. Because it would only take him one call and approximately ten minutes to turn the event into something even more official than it already is and find enough random people on the street.

Yeah. No matter what, this is going to be awesome.

"I totally agree," Shawn sighs. "You know what I don't understand? How everybody makes it a big deal. As if your choice affects them in any way. I mean, if they want their Nine-to-Five, fine. If you don't, fine. What's it got to do with them?"

"Because nine-to-five equals stability, even when it doesn't," she replied. "I mean, when people think of a life on the road, there's definitely a money issue unless you travel for a job. And, you know, money makes the world go round."

She rolled her eyes slightly at the last comment, shaking her head as she did. There was so much more satisfaction in not having to worry about your financial future. There was so much more you could do when you didn't have to worry about it.

"I mean, think about it -- if you had the money where you didn't have to work, and you could go anywhere in the world, wouldn't you just go?"

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-02 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Absolutely," Shawn answers without even contemplating the matter for a second.

"I'd probably never stand still again," he adds, laughing.
hitchhiking: (anna laughing)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-02 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
She laughed as well, before shaking her head. "I figure one of these days I'm gonna do something stupid, hurt myself, and that'll keep me from moving around. But until then -- I kinda like things the way they are."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-02 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, you can still worry about that later, can't you?" Shawn beams at her. "I mean, no need to drive yourself crazy over stuff that might be."
hitchhiking: (anna pretty)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-02 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly," she nodded, before finishing off her beer and signaling for another one. "That's what so great about life -- you don't have to worry about things like that until they happen."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
"True. Just that people don't seem to think so and then they are all about maturity and secure jobs and growing up and scowling at you for having fun and start listing the ifs and buts..."

Shawn shakes his head. "And then something comes and screws them totally over, despite always being so reasonable and goal-oriented. I mean, you can't be... you can't be prepared for life. That's like not watching your favourite TV-show even though you got time on your hands but don't watch it anyway because you set the recorder... and then, the next day you find out it didn't work and there's no way to watch that episode now and everyone else around you starts stating how that was just the best episode ever!"

She grinned at the analogy but tilted her head to the side as the second beer came, looking at him carefully. "You sound like you speak from experience."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Experience, oh yeah, I missed the Season's finale of CHiPs once because of that. Boy, was I devastated!" Shawn immediately babbles. Then, taking another sip from his bottle he leans back thoughtfully. "As for the other thing... well, my parents broke up during high school. Guess I took it rather badly."
hitchhiking: (anna sad)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-03 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughed hard at the first part of what he said, but when the mood changed the grin faded, and she was instantly more sympathetic. Not an act, just -- more of a realization of what he had said.

"Oh, God -- I'm sorry."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Shawn blinked, snapping out of the memory and immediately shook his head. "Oh nonono, don't be, come on, that was 15 years ago!" He dismissed it with a quick wave of his hand and smiled at her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin the mood. This is a party. I just brougth it up because it's one of the reasons I started travelling, doing my own thing, you know? "
hitchhiking: (anna *shrug*)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-03 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've -- I've got kind of a similar thing," she said slowly with a nod, and she shrugged. "I mean -- there's got to be something that pushes you out there and makes you think 'What the hell am I doing sitting still?' -- ya know?"

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-03 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, yeah. I can't argue about that, you're absolutely right." Shawn rested his head on the back of his hand. "You want to talk about it?"
hitchhiking: (anna smirk)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-03 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She shrugged. "It was a long time ago. Kinda the same thing you went through, except instead of my parents breaking up with each other -- they more broke up with me."

She frowned slightly, looking away from him and towards the beer in front of her. "I'm over it though," she smirked slightly. "Probably the best thing they ever did for me."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-04 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
"That's..." Shawn didn't find a word that covered it up, so he dismissed it with another wave of his hand that was also a barman-indication for another beer. "Families are never easy, I guess."
hitchhiking: (anna thinking)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-04 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope," she sighed, shrugging slightly. "But like you said, it was a long time ago. What can you do?"

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-04 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Make the best of it and live life the way you want and feel comfortable with." He paused for a moment and laughed. "Whoa, I should so write a book, don't you think? The Positive Outlook on Life by Shawn Spencer!"
hitchhiking: (anna laughing)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-04 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
She grinned. "Automatic Best Seller. I can feel it."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-04 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks for the confidence!" Shawn laughed. "You gonna write the preface?"
hitchhiking: (anna interested)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-04 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Preface?" she frowned. "That's the part where someone else brags about how great the book is, right?"

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-04 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly!" He nodded, smirking at her frown while leaning back in cocky confidence. "Since you encouraged me so much I think it would only be fair."
hitchhiking: (anna smirk)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-04 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"You got it," she smirked back. "Just let me know when you need it and I'll whip something up."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-04 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I will!"

Shawn bounced a little in his seat, warming up to the random silliness with his usual speed of light. "And then there will be a pre-preface where I write about the preface and brag about how well you brag about my book!"
hitchhiking: (anna laughing)

[personal profile] hitchhiking 2007-11-04 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughed, "And then I can do the same, and this will go on forever and ever until there actually is no book -- unless you have another friend who's opinion you can stick in there."

[identity profile] head-psychic.livejournal.com 2007-11-06 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm gonna ask Gus if he's up to it," Shawn assured with a big grin. "I'm sure he'd be overjoyed to rate all of our ratings and tell us to cut it so I can finally start writing the book."

He paused and frowned. "Well, of course I should write the book before we write the prefaces but the other way around would be a much more interesting approach!"
